Rand Water is looking for a Senior Accountant Operations & Support Services, who will be responsible for the management of Rand Water’s financial results by producing error-free accounting reports through verifying, allocating, analyzing, posting and reconciling general ledger accounts ensuring the integrity of the entity’s trail balance & driving standardization and review of end to end business processes, control environment and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation such as Water Services Act, Public Finance Management Act, VAT Act and IFRS.
Minimum Requirements
• B.Com/B.Compt Degree or equivalent Diploma (majoring in Accounting)
• Minimum of five years working experience in an accounting environment with experience in the management of financial results
Duties and Responsibilities
• Management, verification & analysis of all general ledger postings
• Maintaining Master data and change control activities
• Journals (ad-hoc, standard recurring journals, provisions and accruals)
• Ensure that reconciliation of General Ledger accounts
• Monthly management accounts reporting (preliminary and detailed)
• Implementation and adherence to policies, processes and procedures to ensure compliance to all relevant and applicable financial and regulatory requirements
• Responsible and accountable for ensuring that significant transactions in the Trail Balance are valid and are recorded in the business unit(s) accounts accurately and in a timely manner, compliant with the financial business management memorandum
• Managing and solving Trail Balance related problems that could result in a breakdown of significant financial cost incurred according to the stipulated timeframe
• Management of projects cost settlements ensuring all projects are settled accurately
• Ensure compliance to IFRS, PFMA, VAT, National Treasury and related regulatory legislations
• Compliance management: Monthly reporting to management
• Manage members of staff in line with company policies, procedures and ethos;
• Implement and action initiatives in the General Accounting sections risk register to address the control weakness identified
• Manage sectional audits and ensure audit readiness
• Validate and provide management comments on audit queries / findings
• Review, develop and implement policies and procedures to improve controls within the department
• In-depth knowledge of identification of risks and implementation of internal controls within the general accounting environment
• Accountable and responsible for managing sections expenditure against budget
• Identify and implement initiatives that promote Business partnering through continuous engagement with relevant end user departments in an attempt to understand the value add requirements of business.
Knowledge
• A sound knowledge of the Accounting environment
• Knowledge of Legislative, Statutory and Regulatory Frameworks (e.g. IFRS, PFMA, King III etc.)
• Knowledge of monitoring and management in Finance environment
• Advanced Computer literacy(MS Office Suite, SAP, other accounting systems)
