Purpose of the position

The quality improvement (QI) coach will support a dynamic team to optimise programme performance using QI methodology. A proactive approach to the coordination and coaching on QI methodology will enhance TB surveillance deliverables. The incumbent will provide coaching, guidance and coordination of QI methodology-linked activities. There is a close working collaboration that includes QI advisors, QA/I managers plus core facility (DoH / THC)-based role-players. (This is a contract position renewable based on funding)

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or post-basic nursing education qualification
• 2 years’ post-basic experience in QI methodology within the district health system
• Experience in TB and HIV prevention and management
• A proven track record in delivering QI methodology activities and successes
• Previous work experience in NGOs or funded programme
• Proficiency in district health data management systems (i.e.TIER.net, Web-DHIS, THIS data)
• Fluent in English and IsiZulu
• Valid driver’s licence
• Clear criminal recordAbility to travel in the King Cetshwayo District region

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Quality improvement (QI) methodology in health care

• Provide QI methodology support to stakeholder teams
• Provide technical assistance to stakeholder QI teams
• Coach all QI-linked staff in order to transfer skills and conduct interventions towards achieving the multi-facility QI project aims including
• Author reports, maintain records of all working procedures, development and implementation of new procedures and standards
• Follow-up on the implementation of changes
• Guide stakeholders in the development, implementation and measuring of QI initiatives
• Identify and report on QI methodology successes
• Support the use of prescribed data tools to track progress within and across project facilities at facility or sub-district level
• Ensure all facilities have accurate, current and relevant QI tools prominently displayed
• Facilitate training and learning sessions as per work plan and stakeholder needs
• Apply adult education methodology
• Conduct ongoing feed-back sessions with THC managers and employees

  1. Liaison with stakeholders

• Liaise with internal and external role players and maintain a current understanding on all aspects of QI methodology, including policy and guidelines
