We are currently looking for an Laboratory Technician in North West who will responsible for water testing processes including water sampling, chemical and microbial analysis, testing and treatment processes, as well as the recording of data to ensure that the water quality meets SABS and SANS standards, ensures compliance with company standards, best practices and legislative prescripts, and blue and green drop certification on DWA data base.

Skills and Competencies

• Previous experience as a laboratory technician working with water sampling and testing
• Organise, plan and prioritise tasks to ensure that work gets done profitably and efficiently;

• Safe Working Practices
• Inspection documentation and practices
• Use and care of equipment and tools
• Collection & testing of Water samples
• Performing treatment processes

• Proficient in MS Office; IFS (advantage)
• Knowledge of legislation – Water Services Act, National Water Act; National Environmental Management Act

Qualifications

• 3 Year Diploma or Degree in chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry or microbiology
• Any other qualification relevant to the above

Duties and Responsibilities

Water Sampling and Testing
• Take samples of water to be tested from across the complex
• Conduct the chemical and microbial analyses and testing of potable water, waste water and sewage samples
• Record meter and gauge readings and operational data
• Test and monitor water quality of natural water systems; and treat water accordingly
• Test and treat pool water facilities and water features across the complex
• Deal with any issues, anomalies or irregularities, informing or escalating the concern to infrastructure management where necessary
• Make recommendations to address findings to meet SABS and SANS standards

Water Plant Control Standards
• Have a thorough and up-to-date understanding of SABS and SANS standards and equipment on sampling and analysis of water
• Use and store the operating of equipment to purify and clarify waste water or to process or dispose of sewage in line with specifications and to required standards
• Inspect equipment and ensure operational on a regular basis and complete necessary paperwork
• Co-ordinate annual calibration and servicing in line with schedule
• Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areas
• Maintain an asset control register of water testing equipment

Reporting
• Maintain records of testing and recommendations and treatment of water for audit purposes, in the context of current legislation
• Compile reports on results of analyses for communication with management
• Capture and maintain accurate and thorough records of water testing and treatment results

Stakeholder Management
• Engage with internal customers to understand challenges and/or issues and related requirements
• Provides relevant stakeholders of water outages and scheduled shutdowns
