Purpose:
To assume duties and responsibilities of a safety officer in terms of regulation 2191 of Mine Health and Safety Act, coordinate & implement legal requirements & safety initiatives and to conduct & facilitate incident investigations
Minimum Requirements:
- Relevant Safety Degree (B.Tech)
- Certificate in First Line Management
- 3-5 years relevant safety operations within a heavy industry, mining and production environment
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the evaluation of discipline-specific standards, principles and practice to enable planning, design and implementation of safety outcomes that support business strategy.
- Effective contractor management in terms of quality assurance
- Input into SHE induction material and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements
- Coach internal staff as per corporate programmes
- Facilitate and monitor compliance in terms of training requirements
- Provide an expert advisory service to line and Head, SHE and present statistical findings and performance
- Chair relevant SHE Rep meetings, when required
- Facilitate HIRA process
- Conduct inspections as per legislation
- Incident investigation process as per Chief Safety Officer instruction
- Adhere to all health/safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
- Appointment under section 74 and regulation 2171 of Mine Health and Safety Act
