Overall Job Function
The Tissue Coordinator will be responsible for donor sourcing and consent, suitability assessment and public donor awareness. The incumbent will ensure that legal requirements are met, and stakeholder relationships are maintained.
Main Job Responsibilities
- Obtain and follow-up of potential donor referrals in the Hospital, Forensic Services and/or Funeral home environment.
- Screening and evaluation of potential donors and completing the legal consent process in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
- Conducting all aspects of the donation process in compliance with the established Health Act, related regulations, and industry guidelines.
- Coordinate with tissue recovery team to facilitate all aspects of the organ/tissue recovery process, including all documentation requirements, pathologist authorisation, and coordination of the recovery site.
- Twenty-four-hour availability.
- Participation and organisation of organ & tissue donor tribute days.
- Facilitating the living donor tissue collection program from participating hospitals and safe delivery to tissue bank.
- Ensure sufficient availability of all promotional material & relevant consumables at each participating venue.
- Complying to all recovery policies and quality procedures.
- Representing the cause of organ and tissue donation through appropriate and professional conduct.

- Professional telephone etiquette and bilingual (English & Afrikaans)

- Self-motivated, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality

Matric/Grade 12
- Diploma / Degree in Social Work / Medical / Communication science
- Minimum of 2 years social work, nursing, or related experience
- 2-3 years relevant experience in tissue/organ donation (advantageous)
- Must be comfortable working in hospitals and/or funeral home environment
