QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 4 years electronic or computer engineering degree
- This position is available for candidates who recently graduated
- A solid understanding of software systems
- A solid understanding of MS SQL databases, SQL queries and how software interacts with a database
- Network and systems communication certification will be an advantage
Knowledge and skills:
- Microsoft Visual Studio C#
- Microsoft MVC
- Web development (JavaScript, HTML 5 & CSS)
- Knowledge of a UI framework like React or Angular will be an advantage
- SQL Server 2016 and later
- Operating Systems (Windows 7 and later)
- Good understanding of computer architecture
- Knowledge of fuel management would be an advantage
- Knowledge of interfacing with electronic hardware would be an advantage
- Knowledge of communications architecture and interfaces would be an
advantage - A suitable candidate must be able to work in a team and independently on his/her
own - Must be customer-driven and be able to maintain good relationships with customers
- Ability to learn and adapt
- Must be a good problem solver
- Ability to manage multiple development tasks at the same time
- Must have good communication skills
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- The candidate will be based at the head office in Elandsfontein, Germiston
- The candidate must be willing and able to travel to mining sites where it might be
required for him/her to stay for periods, which are usually between 1 and 2 weeks.
Most of these sites are located in Africa.
- The candidate will be part of a rotating after-hours standby roster
CORE FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE JOB/PURPOSE
The software developers form part of the software team. They are responsible for the development of new versions and maintaining the current versions of software products. They also form part of the support team
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Software Product Development
- Maintain existing versions of Software Products
- New feature development
- supplied software Support Services
- Knowledge Transfer / Training Customers
- Knowledge Transfer / Training Implementation Team
- Documentation where required
- General Development
- Adhoc programming according to customer requirements
- Maintain and support these applications ?
Development
- Capturing development requirements from customer
- Designing of new and additional functionality for Software Products
- Development of interfaces to new devices and new versions of existing field devices.
- Development of interfaces to 3rd party software packages.
- Occasional project management in the development project phases. ?
Maintenance ?Maintaining the current version of Software Products. This includes:
- Bug fixes
- General maintenance
- Issue logging and feedback
- Improve existing software for better performance and ease of use.
- Is responsible for maintaining and updating of the source code repository during the ?entire software development life cycle. ?
Support
- Is responsible to transfer knowledge to the implementation team relating to new and additional software functionality
- Auditing of site databases to identify shortcomings and possible misconduct.
- Occasional assistance with setup and configuration of sites.
- 3rd Tier support on existing software implemented in the field.
Testing - Responsible for software testing to ensure quality.
- Total integrated solution testing
- Administration of testing of site databases
- Responsible to set up and configure testing environment (hardware and software)
Documentation
- Create and update of the software documentation.
- Create and update of software training material.
- Create and update of software marketing material.
Research
- Evaluation of new software components for use in the development process.
- Evaluation of new hardware components for use with software solution.
