Postion Summary:
This role is responsible for responding to maintenance requests regarding network system defects and other issues, troubleshooting network systems by running tests and maintaining inventory for network hardware, and configuring various network components. The candidate will maintain and support network equipment, do performance monitoring on existing networks, and provide first-line support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network support, maintenance and administrationInstall, configure, and troubleshoot network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls Develop, manage and maintain documentation of system architecture
  • Support the delivery of the array deliveries of the SKA project in line with the observatory objectives
  • Manage network security, including firewalls, access controls, and encryptionMaintain and manage data Centre level networking and availabilityParticipate in planned/ad-hoc projects
  • Perform routine maintenance and upgrades to network hardware and softwareMonitor network performance and troubleshoot issue

Minimum Qualification:

  • Higher Certificate / Advanced National Certificate / Vocational 5 / N6 / NQF 5

Minimum Experience:

  • 5-5 years
  • Diploma in Information Technology or Electrical Engineering (LC)
  • ORVocational higher certificate training in IT (N6, CompTIA A+, N+, CISCO CCNA, Linux)

Experience:

  • Diploma – 5 years working experience in the Information Communication Technology
  • or Higher IT Certificate – 8 years working experience in Information Communication Technology and Strong understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP

Knowledge:

  • Documenting network architecture at various OSI levels
  • Operating systems experience: Windows, Linux (Debian / Ubuntu), OS X and Routers and switches OSHigh-performance computing environments,Software Defined Network (SDN) systems,Network management software and toolsWAN networking technologies and services
  • Networking security best practice; Firewall configuration and management
