An exciting opportunity has become available within the energy industry, for a Graduate / Junior Data Analyst. The position is based in Bellville.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the Analyst is to process, analyze and report on energy and technical data to deliver reporting services for Sustainability. The Analyst is expected to use existing tools and models for this reporting, as well as assist in the development of new tools. It would be advantageous to have a degree in engineering or a data analytics field.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or similar discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, statistics etc.).
  • A passion for data analysis, with strong logical and systematic thinking.
  • Interest and skill in BI visualizations and aesthetic design of technical data.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Attention to detail with high level of accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Ability to learn through senior mentorship as well as self-learning.
  • Beneficial:
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with large datasets, data cleaning, aggregation, and the automation of repetitive data processing pipelines using software tools.
  • Experience in working with databases and specifically Google Big Query.
  • Experience with using software for data processing (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Understanding of electrical concepts and drawings.
  • Exposure to the Energy Management or Sustainably industries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Utilities Management Program reporting and analysis for a client/s, including
  • Using existing Power BI, Excel, Big Query and other tools for data cleaning, report generation and analysis
  • Finding data quality issues, trends, actionable insights and project opportunities within the data
  • Ad-hoc analysis across a broad range of data and topics (e.g., energy and water profiles, billing and tariffs, baselines and benchmarks, temperatures, intensities, budgeting, estimating and forecasting consumptions/costs etc.) with guidance from senior analysts
  • Support the development and maintenance of our software Platform with guidance from senior analysts, including
  • Development and maintenance of both internal and external reporting tools
  • Self-learning and research into platform and sustainability topics (e.g., load shedding, water scarcity, new BI functionalities, ESG standards etc.)
  • Effective communication, including
  • Attending client meetings, and responding to client emails/calls
  • Work closely with other Data Analysts and Developers
