Our client, a custom software development/digital supply chain business, currently seeks to appoint a Network Administrator to join their growing 24 hour 2nd line support team in Lone Hill, Sandton. This role focuses on advanced troubleshooting, network administration and IT infrastructure optimisation, ensuring operational efficiency and minimal downtime. The ideal candidate will be responsible for escalated IT issues, network troubleshooting and deployments, as well as maintaining as-built documentation for system configurations.
Minimum Requirements:
- In-office presence is mandatory for this role
- Ability to work in a 24-hour IT Support environment (rotational shifts may apply)
- 3-5 years of experience in IT Support, Network Administration, or System Administration.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting escalated IT issues (2nd Line Support).
- Strong knowledge of network configurations, firewall management and security protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Active Directory (AD), Group Policies and Microsoft 365 administration.
- Experience in troubleshooting Windows 10/11, Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS) and macOS systems.
- Experience in remote IT support tools (RDP, TeamViewer, AnyDesk, PowerShell).
Preferred Skills:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (MCSA, MCSE) Or (AWS certified)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher (CCNP) or (Juniper Network Certifications)
- CompTIA Network+ (Networking fundamentals).
- ITIL Foundation (IT Service Management & Incident Response).
- Zabbix Certified Specialist (for monitoring system administration) or similar

Office IT Support and Troubleshooting

Provide advanced 2nd Line IT support for software, hardware and network issues escalated from 1st Line Support.
- Diagnose and resolve complex IT problems, ensuring system reliability.
- Act as a key IT contact for internal teams, providing expert advice and solutions.

Monitor network and IT infrastructure to proactively detect and resolve issues.

Deployment and Network Support

Lead PC setup, software configurations and pre-deployment testing.
- Conduct network troubleshooting and optimisation to ensure secure, stable connectivity.
- Provide remote deployment support for software and hardware installations at customer sites.
- Manage and configure Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP and VPNs.

Optimise network performance and diagnose connectivity issues (e.g. slow speeds, packet loss).

Network Administration and Security

Maintain and troubleshoot LAN/WAN, VLANs, Firewalls, Routers and Switches.
- Manage firewalls (Cisco, Fortinet, Mikrotik) and VPN configurations.
- Implement cybersecurity measures to protect network integrity and prevent threats.
- Utilise network monitoring tools (e.g. Zabbix, PRTG, SolarWinds) for real-time performance tracking.

Assist in data protection, user access controls and IT security best practices.

Documentation and Process Improvement

Develop and maintain detailed as-built documentation for network and system configurations.
- Document troubleshooting steps to improve the knowledge base and incident response efficiency.
- Continuously enhance IT operations by analysing past incidents and recommending improvements.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Network and System Administration:
- Proficient in configuring and managing routers, switches and firewalls.
- Hands-on experience in LAN/WAN troubleshooting, VLAN setup and VPN administration.
- Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi networks, subnetting and IP addressing.
- Experience in server administration (Windows Server, Linux).
- Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for IT automation.
Security and Monitoring
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles (Access Control, MFA, Security Audits).
- Knowledge of SIEM tools (Splunk, ELK, Graylog) and endpoint security solutions.
- Proficient in firewall management and intrusion detection systems.
- Familiarity with patch management and OS updates (WSUS, SCCM, Intune).
Cloud and Remote Support
- Experience with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
- Managing virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox).
- Supporting remote users via VPNs, cloud applications and remote desktop tools.
