(ROVING) ICT TECHNICIAN: CONDITIONAL GRANTS
Makanda / Grahamstown Eastern Cape.
FIXED TERM CONTRACT for 24 months (03.2025 to 03.2027)
POST OVERVIEW:
The Roving ICT Technician will provide on-site and remote technical support to ensure smooth ICT operations across multiple locations of the South African Library for the Blind.
This role involves inter alia maintaining IT systems, assistive technologies, assisting users with IT and communications technology-related challenges, and contributing to the accessibility of digital and physical resources for SALB project staff and visually impaired patrons. The ICT Technician will be a key link between the SALB ICT Section, project staff and the minilibraries of the SALB – ensuring a high standard of service delivery, good resource management and optimal utilisation of communications and IT technology and resources, including assistive technologies used by blind and partially sighted users.
Minimum Requirements:
- A completed SAQA accredited NQF 6 (or higher level) qualification in Information and Communication Technology, Information Science or related field with 3 years working experience in first line Desktop Support, Basic Networking & Electronics experience; or
- Grade 12 with an A+ and N+ qualification, coupled with at least 5 years relevant working experience in an ICT support role.
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office, Windows platforms, and Web technology, and excellent knowledge of server and end-user products.
- Strong working knowledge of hardware configurations, software installations, and the installation of LAN, security systems, and infrastructure.
- Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office software family and Windows installations.
- Certifications like MCSE, CCNA, or other industry-specific credentials may be advantageous.
- Familiarity with IT security protocols is essential given the managing of remote operations.
- A valid and unendorsed Code B driver’s license.
- Work experience with assistive technologies, accessibility standards, computerised applications and software programs used by blind and partially sighted users will be advantageous.
Other Skills and attributes:
- Extensive technical expertise across various information technology fields and disciplines will be beneficial.
- Good English written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical knowledge to visually impaired individuals and users with limited IT skills.
- Proficiency in multiple languages spoken in South Africa is advantageous.
- A willingness and ability to travel independently on a regular basis across South Africa.
- Adaptability to new technologies and willingness to undergo continuous learning.
