An Enterprise Architect (EA) plays a crucial role in an organization by designing and overseeing the implementation of comprehensive IT infrastructure strategies. Here are some of the primary roles and functions of an Enterprise Architect
Primary roles and Function:
- IT Strategy Development: Developing long-term IT strategies that align with the company’s overall goals. This involves analysing current IT infrastructure and crafting a roadmap for technological advancement.
- Business-IT Alignment: Ensuring that IT projects and systems support the business objectives effectively. The EA serves as a bridge between the business side and IT, promoting synergy and mutual understanding between these areas.
- Architecture Design and Development: Creating comprehensive architectural designs that span across all levels of the IT infrastructure. This includes the development of blueprints for data management, application services, network infrastructure, and security protocols.
- Technology Evaluation and Selection: Identifying and evaluating new technologies that can improve existing systems or provide new opportunities for the organization. The EA is responsible for recommending the adoption of those technologies that offer significant benefits.
- Facilitate alignment between business and technology functions including innovation and support various operating models such as project-centric and product-centric as required.
- Engage business and technology delivery stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships.
- Provide inputs into the formulation of SARS architecture strategy, adapt to changing business and operating models and contribute to a smart and modern SARS.
- Analyse trends and disruptions and assess their impact on targeted business outcomes related to growing revenue, optimising costs, mitigating risks and improving sustainability.
- Articulate current and visualize the future enterprise architecture state and trigger long-term planning with applicable roadmaps.
- Communicate the value of enterprise architecture, and its portfolio of services across all critical stakeholders.
- Drive the evolution of the Enterprise Architect teams services and operating model.
- Coach and mentor other architects, product owners/managers and business stakeholders to in still architectural thinking.
Minimum Requirements: - Relevant bachelor’s degree /advanced diploma and 12-15 years related experience, of which 3-4 years at a specialist level
or - Matric and a relevant IT qualification(s)/certification(s) and 10-12 years’ experience in a similar environment and the additional requirements specified in minimum functional requirements, where applicable.
- At least 5 years’ experience in an Enterprise Architecture discipline.
- Experience and knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks, Toolsets and MS Office.
- Relevant Architecture Certification (TOGAF 9 or higher) or a Microsoft Cloud Architecture Certification.
- Experience with Erwin and Sparx as architectural tools will be advantage.
- Knowledge of IBM Technologies.
- Modelling and mapping technical skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to coordinate in a cross functional manner across disciplines.
- Proven track record in maintaining professional, high-quality communication with stakeholders in support of their operations.
Skills and Knowledge requirements: - Translate top-down policy, apply modification in relation to own practice area and communicate impact to relevant stakeholders.
- Recommend changes to optimise processes, systems, practice areas and associated procedures and execute the implementation of change and innovation.
- Plan for value-added, continuous multiple practice and system improvement optimisation to deliver on objectives and to enhance tactical excellence.
- Optimise goal achievement through tactical strategy development and optimisation of practices, processes and systems across an internal value chain.
- Integrate business information, compare, analyse and produce reports to identify trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies for decision making purposes.
- Influence and communicate across business areas impacted by practice area to minimise resistance and ensure on-boarding of new thinking.
- Draw on own technical or professional expertise, knowledge and experience to identify and recommend tactical solutions to defined problems in practices.
- Develop multiple practices in alignment with operational policy and procedural frameworks, supporting tactical development and excellence.
- Contribute to the optimum utilisation of organisational resources, advising on effective planning and development of area of specialisation resource plans.
- Analyse and make recommendations about improvements to specialist systems, procedures, policies and practices
