As higher education institutions globally adopt blended and online learning, the need for capacity-building and collaboration has never been greater.

The Mangosutho University of Technology’s Teaching and Learning Development Centre (TLDC) will once again have its annual ‘Teaching with Technology’ Summit, on 27-28 March in Durban.

Some of the key figures expected to participate in the summit are Dr Hazel Farrell, academic lead for Gen AI and chair of the Gen AI Steering Committee at South East Technological University (SETU), Ireland; Dr Arno Louw, senior specialist: instructional design (e-learning) and manager: Centre for Academic Technologies Laboratory & Design Thinking Hub at the University of Johannesburg.

Cebo Nyondo, one of the organisers of the Summit calls Teaching with Technology (TwT) “the strategic integration of digital tools, online platforms, and emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment.

“The aim is to create an engaging, accessible, and effective learning experience while preparing graduates for a technology-driven future and economy.”

Nyondo says the summit is a platform for academics, higher education policymakers and industry experts to explore the transformative role of technology in education.

“The rapid advancement of digital tools, artificial intelligence and online learning solutions necessitates continuous dialogue on best practices, challenges and innovative strategies.”

The summit will provide a space for knowledge-sharing, showcasing technologies and fostering partnerships that enhance teaching and learning. It helps to ensure that institutions remain responsive to the evolving educational landscape, equipping academics with skills to navigate digital transformation effectively.

Discussions will also emphasise inclusivity, accessibility and digital equity, ensuring that all students benefit from technology-enhanced learning.
