Lead Software Engineer: AWS at Sabenza IT & Recruitment – Gauteng Johannesburg

This is a remote position.

We are building a cutting-edge, data-driven platform to enable insight generation across teams, business units, and value streams. As part of our digital transformation, we’re integrating an AWS-based OCR/IDP (Intelligent Document Processing) solution and seeking a hands-on Technical Lead to join our team.

This is a strategic and technical leadership role where you will evaluate, lead, and implement advanced document understanding technologies — becoming a key contributor to our broader AI and data strategy.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

  • Strong AWS Cloud Experience, including:

    • EC2, ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, IAM

  • 5–10 years as a Senior/Lead Software Developer

  • Hands-on OCR & IDP Project Experience

  • Proven track record in:

    • Peer code reviews

    • Technical mentorship or team leadership

  • Experience integrating OCR/IDP tooling into enterprise systems

Highly Desirable / Bonus Skills

  • AWS Textract, AWS Comprehend, AWS A2I

  • Exposure to LLM-based QA or AI vision models for OCR and document understanding

  • Experience with HuggingFace or other open-source vision/NLP libraries

  • Knowledge of technical evaluation techniques for OCR/IDP tooling

You Will:

  • Lead vendor evaluation for OCR/IDP systems

  • Integrate selected solutions into our AWS-based architecture

  • Extend and optimize IDP systems as part of our enterprise AI roadmap

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align solutions with business and data goals

  • Work in a team responsible for interpreting and visualizing data to inform strategic decisions
