Our client is on the hunt for a skilled and versatile PHP / Rust Developer to join their talented team in beautiful Cape Town.
?? What You’ll Be Doing:
- Designing and building high-performance Rust modules that are efficient, testable, and scalable.
- Tackling architectural challenges and performance optimization head-on.
- Developing in a cloud-native environment using best practices from AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Collaborating across teams to support and enhance a robust PHP API.
- Working with modern dev tools like Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and more.
?? What You Bring to the Team:
General Skills:
- Strong command of Git, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Comfortable working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with Kafka / RabbitMQ, and monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or Datadog.
- Solid understanding of API design, containerization, and scalable system design.
- Excellent communicator – fluent in English and a team player.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar? Even better!
Rust Skills (or willingness to learn):
- Passion for systems programming and performance.
- Hands-on or foundational experience in Rust.
- Understanding of memory management, concurrency, and functional programming concepts (map, filter, reduce).
- Comfortable with statically typed languages (C#, Java, TypeScript, etc.).
- Familiar with pattern matching and algebraic data types? You’re speaking our language!
PHP Skills:
- 8+ years of solid PHP experience, ideally with Laravel and MVC frameworks.
- Experience working with Drupal? That’s a bonus!
- Deep understanding of security practices (PSR-12, OWASP).
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL – including indexing, partitioning, and JSON.
- Comfortable with integrating multiple databases and APIs.
- Understanding of front-end basics (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
