Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to manage and optimise the organisation’s databases, ensuring their reliability, performance, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This role requires a strong understanding of database technologies, security, and performance tuning, with the ability to support both on-premises and cloud environments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or an NQF Level 7 equivalent.

Minimum Experience Required (Unless Stated Otherwise):

  • 3+ years in user support.
  • 3+ years in database installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • 3+ years in backup and recovery management.
  • 3+ years in database programming (T-SQL).
  • 3+ years in database performance tuning and optimisation.
  • 3+ years in database security implementation.
  • 1+ year in data migration and integration.
  • 1+ year in capacity planning and forecasting.
  • 1+ year in technical writing and documentation.

Knowledge Areas:

  • Data compliance and regulations (e.g. POPIA).
  • Data governance principles and practices.
  • Project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of data lake administration (advantageous).
  • Experience with cloud-based database systems (advantageous).
