Purpose of the Role

The Applications Architect will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimising the organisation’s enterprise-wide application architecture. The role ensures that application design and implementation align with approved enterprise architecture (EA) standards, frameworks, and governance principles.

Key Performance Areas

  1. Application Architecture Domain Establishment

  2. Interpret and apply approved enterprise architecture principles, policies, and procedures.

  3. Provide guidance and domain-driven input across all enterprise architecture services.

  4. Establish and maintain the organisation’s as-is, to-be, and transition application architecture.

  5. Conduct impact assessments and options analyses to support business and ICT transformation.

  6. Develop and maintain the application architecture roadmap and portfolio in line with organisational change.

  7. Define and update architecture templates and domain-specific position papers to support technology adoption and standardisation.

  8. Present domain-related changes to governance structures in accordance with approved policies.

  9. EA Tool Administration

  10. Maintain the enterprise architecture repository and ensure modelling style consistency.

  11. Manage access and promote awareness of application architecture practices across the organisation.

  12. Solution Architecture

  13. Define and design end-to-end architecture solutions that adhere to enterprise principles and ICT standards.

  14. Ensure solutions provide scalability, integration, and security within the enterprise landscape.

  15. Maintain all solution and architecture artefacts within the architecture repository.

  16. Project Planning and Implementation

  17. Contribute to the development and evaluation of Terms of Reference (ToR) during RFI/RFP processes.

  18. Ensure end-to-end delivery of solutions in alignment with approved architectures.

  19. Develop and support business cases to facilitate strategic business change.

  20. Stakeholder Management and Collaboration

  21. Partner with business and ICT stakeholders to ensure alignment between business strategy and architecture implementation.

  22. Support solution architects to ensure architectural integrity and alignment.

  23. Communicate effectively across teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.

  24. Stay abreast of emerging technology trends and propose innovative, value-driven solutions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Certification: TOGAF certification (mandatory); familiarity with other frameworks (e.g., Zachman) advantageous.

Experience:

Minimum six (6) years in application architecture design and large-scale solution development.

Minimum six (6) years in hybrid (cloud/on-premises) architecture and integration design.

Minimum three (3) years working with enterprise architecture tools (e.g., Casewise, Visio, Sparx Enterprise Architect).

Experience developing business cases, conducting impact assessments, and performing options analysis.

Technical Expertise: Knowledge of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud certifications advantageous.

Competencies: Strong communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills; proven ability to guide cross-functional teams and ensure architectural alignment
