An opportunity is available for a skilled Data Technologist to source, gather, scope, and map statistical as well as visual/spatial information to support operational data needs. The role focuses on advanced data analysis, database programming, and the delivery of actionable intelligence to support forensic investigations and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

Key Performance Areas

  • Data Engagement & Requirements Analysis
  • Engage with business units to understand project requirements aligned to forensic investigation objectives.
  • Identify and develop new information sources by building relationships with data providers.
  • Develop custom management tools to enhance information gathering processes.
  • Database Programming & Development
  • Perform database programming for new and existing projects, including scripts, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Support complex analytical procedures involving financial data to detect and combat financial crime.
  • Assist with data integration and migration activities, ensuring secure and seamless data handling.
  • Contribute to database architecture discussions to ensure scalability and optimisation.
  • Data Quality Assurance & Problem Resolution
  • Conduct quality assurance testing to ensure data integrity and reliability.
  • Resolve database problems, queries, and error reports promptly.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance database performance and stability.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Design models to detect anomalies and suspicious financial activity.
  • Apply diagnostic and analytical skills to identify relationships and causal links within complex datasets.
  • Compile reports with inferences and conclusions to inform medium-term planning and investigative strategies.
  • Data Management & Documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive database programming documentation.
  • Contribute to documentation templates reflecting data checks, inclusion, and exclusion criteria.
  • Conduct data audits to ensure raw data quality and evidentiary integrity.
  • Big Data Evaluation & Analytical Support
  • Search and analyse large datasets to extract relevant information for investigations.
  • Perform preliminary statistical analyses and provide analytical support.
  • Translate technical findings into user-friendly reports to support informed decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Deliver briefings and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Disseminate approved information in accordance with agreed timelines and governance standards.
  • Planning & Execution
  • Plan and manage personal deliverables to meet agreed milestones.
  • Perform additional data analysis as required to support evolving investigative needs.

Minimum Requirements
Education

  • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Information Systems/Analysis, Finance, Law Enforcement Support, or related field.
  • SAS and/or SQL Server certifications advantageous.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in data mining, modelling, coding, or related analytical fields.
  • Strong quantitative background in statistics, data mining, and model development.
  • Experience in financial and banking transactional analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial flows and illicit financial activities (advantageous).
  • Strong programming skills.
  • Proficiency in Power BI and other business intelligence and visualisation tools.
