Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a specialist engineering team focused on developing and modernising software solutions for traffic monitoring and control systems. This opportunity is ideal for a developer who enjoys working with legacy applications while driving the migration to modern technologies and contributing across the full software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain and enhance software components.
- Maintain and refactor an existing Delphi (Object Pascal) codebase while contributing to future migration initiatives.
- Develop clean, maintainable and well-documented code.
- Collaborate closely with embedded and hardware engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Participate in software architecture, system design and technical reviews.
- Develop and execute unit, integration and system testing.
- Assist with build pipelines, compiler toolchains and automated testing.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve software performance, maintainability and development processes.
- Support software deployment and ongoing product improvements.
Minimum Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years’ professional software development experience.
- Working knowledge of Delphi (Object Pascal) or the ability to maintain existing Delphi applications.
- Experience with C and/or modern programming languages such as C++, Rust, Python or Go is advantageous.
- Understanding of object-oriented design principles.
- Experience with version control and software configuration management.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude is advantageous.
- Knowledge of RTOS, multithreading, Linux or scripting languages is beneficial.
- Valid South African driver’s licence.
