MTN Ghana, also trading as Scancom, has received a notice from Ghana’s National Communications Authority for the award of spectrum in the 700 MHz and 3 GHz mid-band frequencies for the provision of 5G and mobile broadband services.
The spectrum licences will have a duration of 15 years.
In the 700 MHz range, MTN Ghana has been awarded two of three available lots of 20MHz each, with a licence fee of $100,9-million.
IN the 3 GHz band, it has been awarded all three of the available lots of 150MHz each, with a licence fee of $101,1-million.
MTN Ghana is currently finalising the required formalities and payment obligations associated with the licence acquisition.
The licence payments have been incorporated into the MTN Ghana’s equity free cash flow outlook.
Following the issuance of the spectrum licences, the MTN Ghana will deploy the 5G spectrum in addition to its existing spectrum stock, to strengthen network capacity, enhance service quality, and improve customer experience across Ghana.
