Sit in the R&D; function and contribute to new technology initiatives, proof-of-concepts and software development. This is a junior Java and Angular role for developers with solid fundamentals, curiosity, and an interest in picking up new technologies.
RequirementsKey responsibilities:
- Build and support proof-of-concepts and small software pieces for new technology initiatives.
- Write Java and Spring Boot code against agreed designs, including REST APIs and data access.
- Build basic Angular screens and components where a proof-of-concept needs a frontend.
- Work with relational databases and SQL as part of the build.
- Use Git for day-to-day development, branching and code review.
- Follow the software development lifecycle: requirements, build, test, and handover.
- Document what was built so the wider team can pick it up.
- Learn new tools and technologies quickly and apply them on the next initiative.
- Flag problems early and work them through with the team.
Must-have experience:
- 1–3 years’ software development experience.
- Strong Java.
- Spring or Spring Boot exposure.
- Object-oriented programming.
- REST APIs.
- SQL and relational databases.
- Git.
- Basic frontend development, ideally Angular.
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Advantageous:
- TypeScript.
- Native Android.
- Azure, Azure DevOps and other cloud technologies.
- Docker and Kubernetes.
- Python.
- AI or machine learning exposure.
- Microservices.
- Automated testing.
- Experience developing proof-of-concepts.
Candidate profile:
- Strong junior developers, including graduates with 1–2 years’ commercial experience, where the Java and frontend fundamentals are solid.
