HP is said to have received a number of enquiries to buy its troubled Autonomy and Electronic Data Systems (EDS) businesses, but CEO Meg Whitman has denied that the company will offload them.
Reports in the international media indicate that a number of parties have expressed interest in acquiring the business units, following an indication in HP’s annual report that it might be interested in shedding business or assets that no longer meet its core objectives.
Both Autonomy and EDS have shown lackluster performance and HP has significantly written down the value of both acquisitions.
In addition, it is claiming accounting irregularities at Autonomy that led to it overpaying to acquire the company.
However, Whitman said yesterday that HP considers Autonomy and EDS part of its core business, and it would not be interested in selling them.
Earlier this week, rumours surfaced that Dell might be considering a leveraged buyout.
