Gavin Krugel, head of customer strategy and market activation for emerging markets at Visa company Fundamo, has been included in Global Telecoms Business’ 40 Under 40 list.
The list identifies the most exciting young people in the mobile industry aged under 40 today who are set to become the industry leaders of tomorrow.
Krugel has led Visa’s efforts to solve the biggest challenge facing the mobile money industry in emerging markets: driving customer activation. By taking a pragmatic approach that looks beyond technology and focuses on building the business of mobile money, Krugel has helped Visa’s clients to double their number of active mobile money users.
“I am delighted to be included in the 40 under 40 list for the fourth year running, alongside the most talented young professionals in the industry,” says Krugel.
Global Telecoms Business is a well-respected publication that Krugel has worked at numerous financial institutions including Standard Bank Group, Barclays subsidiary Absa Bank, Investec Private Bank, MasterCard Worldwide and start-up Cointel/Simplus.
Prior to joining Fundamo, he was a senior director at the GSMA, which represents the interests of mobile operators globally, heading up its mobile money initiatives.
