Information Builders says its WebFOCUS technology is being used to distribute and manage public funds.
“Currently many organisations create reports using personal productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel. However, there is little consistency, the process is time-consuming and administration is overwhelmed by escalating data and reporting requirements,” says Johan Jurd, MD of InfoBuild, a representative for Information Builders in South Africa.
“WebFOCUS creates reports and dashboards that automate or replace manual processes. Municipal parks and recreation departments use the reporting system to upload information about their activities and programmes. In return, they generate detailed reports that help develop better programme,” he says.
Currently about 70 organisations use WebFOCUS for information and insight. It helps staff members monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate funding reports, education programmes, financial information and statistics.
“It has freed up hundreds of hours of time that staff spend sifting through spreadsheets, databases, Word documents and paper reports to answer questions covering funding and financial queries. Easier access to the information has made staff more efficient.”
Staff at one government department spent six weeks each year creating a basic summary report for provincial government.
Now, a WebFOCUS dashboard allows personnel to access this data through parameterised reports with drill-down capabilities. Users can quickly generate an unlimited number of variants on each basic report, eliminate the unwieldy hardcopy printouts and cut down the preparation time from six weeks to one week.
