KEMP Technologies, a leading price/ performance load balancer and application delivery controller, has announced the availability of its Edge Security Pack (ESP) in its LoadMaster product line of load balancer and application delivery controllers.
The release will add immediate value to South African companies that increase their deployment of business-critical web-facing applications and require load balancers to provide high availability and minimise application security threats.
KEMP has an established and proud track record of leadership in the development of load balancers and ADCs – and the extension of its security features to address requirements of edge security reflects this leadership.
New security features within the Edge Security Pack (ESP) build on existing core technologies such as the reverse proxy function to fill the gap left by the end of life of Microsoft’s Forefront by integrating the most-widely used features formerly found in the TMG into the load balancer.
End Point Authentication for Pre-Authorisation enables access to virtual services on the LoadMaster. This information is used by the ESP to validate the client’s right to gain access. Active directory is used to protect workload servers from unauthorised access and single sign-on across multiple virtual services.
When successfully authenticated, the client can access the service and, in the event of failure, the client will be blocked until credentials are validates.
Other key features include persistent logging and reporting for user logging as well as improved logging and reporting capabilities, tracking who is accessing virtual services and when. This will allow monitoring by the administrator.to determine any unusual activities, including failed log-ins.
Single Sign On – KEMP LoadMasters are designed to handle multiple virtual services supporting unique workloads. These virtual services can be joined together into Single Sign On groups.
The ESP will enable clients to only enter the authentication information for the first virtual service and then this same information will be used to access other services in the Single Sign On group. Therefore, a client accessing Exchange will also be able to access SharePoint and other workloads if they are configured as a Single Sign On group.
Peter Melerud, executive VP of product management at KEMP Technologies, says, “The addition of the Edge Security Pack will deliver superior protection alongside the high performance and scalability that KEMP customers rely on.
“Microsoft may have withdrawn its Forefont TMG from the market, but businesses still need to protect applications such as Exchange and SharePoint from unauthorized use. Moreover, the hardware-based or virtual servers used to support the growth of Internet-facing, business-critical applications require KEMP’s superior level of load balancing to ensure a scalable, reliable and secure work load.”
George Zervos, sales director at KEMP Technologies, says the release will add substantial value to South African companies, particularly as businesses focus on the application of technology to protect critical resources.
“The African and Southern Africa markets are considered high-growth areas, fuelled by the rollout and ongoing application of core technologies to enhance the network. This latest release reflects KEMP’s knowledge of developing markets and what businesses require to maintain momentum,” Zervos concludes.
The ESP and all the new features are available immediately. To support the launch, KEMP is offering the ESP feature pack at no additional cost. The promotional period will end 30 August 2013.
