South African ICT provider, globetom has been appointed an official reseller of Altova, a leading software company specialising in data management, software and application development and data integration.
The partnership will enable globetom to provide its customers with advanced tools and services for XML, data management, UML (Unified Modelling Language), web services and surrounding technologies – functioning as standalone products.
Additionally, globetom has integrated its middleware platform GEF with Altova products to create a comprehensive, easily-extendible and user-friendly data transformation and mapping engine.
“Altova undoubtedly met our requirements for a partner that offers the tools and technologies to extend and enrich the data transformation capabilities offered off-the-shelf as part of our GEF platform. Additionally, the company offers sophisticated ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) enabling tools which enable accurate sourcing and extraction of data from disparate sources,” comments Philip Stander, MD of globetom.
“What this means is that with embedded Altova tools as an optional element of GEF, ETL functions can be exposed as a service in our service orientated architecture (SOA) offering. This effectively elevates GEF into the Enterprise Content Management Space,” he explains.
GEF is a next-generation application server and integration platform in the SOA paradigm. The product is already being used by leading South African CSPs and is the underlying platform for a number of globetom’s product offerings which include:

The SOA platform is horizontally scalable which complies with XTP (extreme transaction processing) reference architecture. The platform currently processes billions of business process executions per month.

Altova’s MapForce is a visual data mapping and data integration tool that can be rendered in executable code, therefore, simplifying integration with GEF. It maps data between any combination of XML, SQL database, flat file, EDI, Excel, XBRL, and/or Web service structure and then transforms data instantly or auto-generates royalty-free data integration code for the execution of recurrent conversions.
