Level 2 BBBEE accredited service provider, LSD Information Technology, opened a new office in Cape Town in February 2012. The Cape Town Branch is headed up by long-term LSD member, Derryn Askham.

An important new addition to the Cape Town team is a full-time Linux technical specialist, Andrew McIver, employed to boost SUSE enterprise Linux skills and open source solution implementations in the Western Cape. With the addition of the SUSE specialist, LSD can now offer consulting, development, support and training to the region.

LSD MD, Sven Lesicnik, says the company’s presence in the Cape will underscore SUSE skills development and solutions implementation in the province. “It is also an indication of the growth being achieved within the SUSE channel. We as platinum partners are committed to promoting open source solutions.”

Derryn Askham adds that LSD promotes a wide choice of open source, vendor-neutral solutions with the objective of ensuring that the most relevant solution is implemented in a client’s environment, and is fully integrated within their ever-evolving technological landscape.

Matthew Lee, regional manager for SUSE in South Africa, says Linux offers cost-effective products for companies reliant on IT solutions in a steadily expanding spread of commercial and industrial enterprises.
“We welcome the expansion from LSD into the Cape Region as Cape Town is the second richest city in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) and the economic capital of the Western Cape. The city holds many industry specific vertical leads in retail, finance, manufacturing and insurance.

“All enterprises in these verticals are prime candidates for enterprise open source Linux solutions which enable them to optimise and innovate on an open source platform while focussing on their core business. SUSE is achieving significant growth in South Africa based upon the advantages that open source Linux brings to companies looking for a better way of conducting and managing their businesses.”
