The ICT skills shortage is a worldwide challenge, and in South Africa it remains a problem in all areas – but in particular around data management.

Master Data Management (MDM) is actively working to address this skills issue by partnering with global online learning experts eLearningCurve to deliver high quality education and certification in information management skills to local resources.

This complementary solution augments MDM’s data management offering, enabling the company to deliver consulting, tools, implementation, training and certification for data and information management.

eLearningCurve provides comprehensive online education and industry certifications in various information management disciplines. The organisation features an expert faculty of consultants, who provide practical insights on how to successfully deliver core information management solutions.

“We will be acting as agents of eLearningCurve in the Southern African region, offering a direct presence to corporate clients needing access to internationally recognised expertise, training and certifications,” says Gary Allemann, MD of MDM.

“We are pleased to have Master Data Management on board as a reseller of eLearningCurve courses in South and southern Africa. This arrangement blends perfectly with our vision of bringing convenient, flexible, high-quality information management education and certification to data professionals around the world,” says Michelle Johnson, marketing director for eLearningCurve.

The curriculum covers a variety of areas including business intelligence (BI), master data management, data quality and data governance.

These practical courses leverage the power of e-learning to address the skills shortage, by providing access to the knowledge and experience of a range of specialists at an affordable cost and a time and place that is convenient for participants.

Ultimately, IT staff may be recognised as a Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP), while business staff may choose to follow the Certified Data Steward (CDS) path.

Courses are run online, as with any eLearning facility, and participants may access the course material at a time and place that is convenient to them. Once the required modules have been completed, examinations may be undertaken to achieve certification.

Advanced certifications are also available, which require a number of courses to be completed along with relevant work experience.

These courses empower inexperienced staff with practical data management skills, as well as providing more senior staff with access to international expertise and experiences at affordable rates.

The focus is to help participants gain skills that can be practically applied in real-world scenarios, along with knowledge of the purpose and benefits of information management.

“The bonus – Participants can choose to gain an internationally recognised certification in a core area. This delivers great value to corporates and effectively assists with addressing skills shortages in the region,” Allemann adds.

With courses open to all corporates in South and southern Africa, MDM has already signed up a number of customers for training.
