When it comes to project management (PM), a major challenge to IT executives and their teams lies in having to maintain focus on the end deliverable and not be side-tracked by small issues as they arise.
According to the company, successful projects are dependent on a number of factors, including weighing up expectations against the end deliverable.
Anita Potgieter, chief operations officer at FOXit, believes it is straightforward to manage expectations. “This is easy, in my opinion. It is critical to be honest and give honest feedback, do not over-promise and under-deliver.”
FOXit stresses the importance of communication within the project management process. The Company describes this as a core skill that is fundamental to the creation of understanding between all stakeholders, such as the project sponsor, executives and team members.
There are numerous other skills that are involved in bringing about a successful project. These include organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, technical knowledge and experience in practical application in business.
Potgieter also reiterates the importance of trust between these stakeholders.
“Trust starts with small little things you set out to do and then deliver exactly that or even better it. Once business sees “oh, she did this exactly the way she said she would” and you continue delivering every single time, the trust relationship will flourish,” she adds.
FOXit emphasises that project management has evolved and there is technology in place that can help to establish and sustain this level of communication and trust.
Executive leadership at the company make the point that with the necessary background, domain knowledge, skills and experience in place, tools and methodologies can be added to bridge any gaps.
“This will lay the foundation for the successful project roll out and the ability to ensure deliverables,” Potgieter concludes.
