Océ South Africa has added the Canon imagePress C800 series, a range of three colour printers with a throughput of 60 pages per minute (ppm), 70ppm or 8ppm, to its product offering.
The target range of these devices is from 40 000 to 70 000 A4 pages.
“A powerful and versatile colour light production press, the imagePRESS C800 delivers new levels of quality and productivity across a huge range of media and a wide choice of finishers, providing printers with a reliable ‘workhorse’ of a machine,” says Hennie Kruger, digital document solutions (DDS) product and marketing manager for Océ South Africa.
The C800 range uses Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) lasers (a 32 multi-beam system), resulting in 2400dpi resolution at 8-bits per pixel, enabling even higher precision in the printing of text and images. It also features several halftone screen patterns for increased flexibility and optimised quality closer to offset. These technologies, together with enhanced colour calibration, deliver the required print quality for even the most demanding environments.
“It features a new compact and highly accurate registration technology that assures best-in-class results whether printing one sheet or thousands,” says Kruger. “Furthermore, image quality is brighter and punchier than ever, with new Colour Vivid toner, which has smaller particles and a lower melting temperature, helping to bring down power consumption.”
The imagePRESS C800 delivers production speeds of up to 80 images per minute (ipm) on a wide range of media. It can run at maximum speed on heavy stock up to 220gsm and quickly and effortlessly prints duplex jobs on 300 gsm media. Major enhancements in the belt fusing technology allow users to print complex jobs on a wide range of substrates.
An niche addition to this range is a long sheet and banner mode, which supports paper up to 762 mm long. Applications include landscape A4 photobooks, book dust jackets and throw-outs and 6pp products; with feeding options incorporating a multiple drawer feeder able to hold a total of 6 000 sheets, or the Pod, that can hold up to 3 500 sheets. On the output side for near line and offline finishing, there is a high-capacity stacker in addition to a number of online finishing options.
The Pro finisher, an appealing option for the print-for-pay market, features a folding unit, a saddle finisher and two trimmers, one for the fore edge trim and then a two-knife configuration for the head and tail. That means it is possible to produce full-bleed stitched products up to 100pp inline.
“Another new addition to C800 is more operator replaceable components, which greatly improve uptime, and so potentially enhance ROI.”
A plethora of improvements to the on-board calibration tools also provides for consistent quality. Automatic and Reciprocal Color Density Adjustment Technology (Arcdat) adjusts the toner gradation and density, using five patches for each of the four toners on the C800, something that ensures greater accuracy throughout the tonal range.
Another new calibration technology is Auto Correct Color Tone (ACCT), which goes beyond Auto Gradation Adjustment (AGA) technology, covering multi-dimension mixed colours – a first in a Canon light-production device.
