Motorola Solutions is expanding its Public Safety LTE device portfolio by introducing a new mission-critical handheld device.

The LEX L10 features a new hardware and software platform that addresses the unique requirements of public safety personnel by providing greater durability, high performance audio and enhanced security features that are not available on consumer-grade smartphones.

The LEX L10 device features Motorola Solutions’ new Public Safety Experience (PSX) user interface that intelligently prioritizes information to only present what is the most critical for the responder based on the individual’s current status and activity.

The device can be equipped with Motorola Solutions’ WAVE Work Group Communications solution for broadband interoperability with land mobile radio (LMR) systems, Real-time Video Intelligence for two-way streaming of live video, PremierOne Handheld for access to incident data, and the Intelligent Data Portal for dynamic resource mapping.

A suite of other specialized public safety applications include scene documentation, tactical incident command and custom field reports.

The sleek LEX L10 is ergonomically designed for one-handed operation with a no-slip grip, a textured push-to-talk (PTT) button and a 4,7-inch touchscreen. It features a removable, long-lasting battery and is ruggedized to withstand 4-foot drops to concrete and 1-meter water immersion.

The LEX L10 can operate in covert mode and can be securely touch-paired with Motorola Solutions’ APX ASTRO 25 radios via mission-critical Bluetooth to remotely manage the Project 25 radio’s contacts, channels and messages as well as provide a backup route for emergency signaling during undercover missions. The device can be secured with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 hardware encryption, Security Enhanced Android OS and Secure Boot to deter cyber threats. All features and capabilities of the device are designed to enhance situational awareness, collaboration, productivity and safety.
* The LEX L10 will support commercial carrier 3G/4G LTE (Band 13 and Band 4) and public safety LTE (Band 14), ensuring optimal coverage and performance at all times.
* The LEX L10 includes best-in-class audio with dual 1-watt, front-facing speakers (producing 106 decibels), triple-microphone noise and echo cancellation, and a dedicated PTT button for fast voice collaboration, so first responders never miss a call and communication is clear.
* Motorola Solutions is currently planning several pilot programs in North America, including with Harris County, Texas. The LEX L10 is expected to be ready to ship to customers in early 2015.
* The LEX L10 will be Motorola Solutions first Public Safety LTE device to feature the new Public Safety Experience user interface, which also is launching at IACP.

“LTE continues to gain traction as the public safety mobile broadband standard. The purpose-built LEX L10 LTE device will help first responders work faster, smarter and safer during routine tasks or their most challenging missions. The Public Safety Experience user interface, combined with the ergonomics, audio and durability of the LEX L10, creates a specialized device not seen in today’s consumer smartphones,” says Bruce Brda, senior vice-president, Government Solutions, Motorola Solutions.
