MTN and union agree to end strike

MTN South Africa CEO Mteto Nyati has announced the company has agreed with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) to end the strike immediately. Nyati apologised for the inconvenience that MTN customers suffered during the period of the strike, and thanked them for their patience and loyalty.

MTN aims to minimise strike disruptions

MTN is putting contingency measures in place to minimise disruptions at its operations. The company has issued a statement on the labour dispute. The Communications Workers Union (CWU) had demanded an 8% bonus payment which MTN agreed to. The company further tabled an additional 8,33% plus 4% for the year 2016 which ramped up MTN’s offer to 12% bonus payment. This is significantly better than what the CWU initially demanded.

MTN calls for binding arbitration

MTN has called for a legally binding arbitration process with the company and the Communication Workers Union (CWU), which could put an end to the current industrial action.
