Telkom Wholesale Services has announced wholesale unit price reductions of up to 63% across its product range, including wholesale fibre broadband access, IP Connect, Resell DSL, Metro Ethernet and SAIX dedicated access offerings. This announcement is the latest in a series of price reductions of Telkom’s IP Connect product, which has now effectively been halved over the past 18 months. Effective 1 May 2015, Telkom’s Wholesale customers can expect the a number of price adjustments.

Telkom will proceed with the automatic transfer of staff from its call centre, supply chain and IT environments to new employers on 31 March, after unions failed to secure a majority consensus on an additional offer from the company. Persistent industrial action in the form of “go-slows” at Telkom’s call centres also escalated this weekend, with incidents of staff intimidation and walk-outs reported.

The COMESA Competition Commission has approved Telkom’s acquisition of Business Connexion, paving the way to the takeover being finalised. Once the Competition Authorities have given the approval for the acquisition, approval must still be granted by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) and then the Takeover Regulation Panel can then issue a compliance certificate.
